Midoricast: French-language podcast #202

With tis teaser, a new committed segment for Midoricast!

Feel free to leave a voice message on our podcast voicemail for this teaser to share your reactions and questions with Pierre Léonard!

Because change happens through action, “The Podcast Factory Org” has introduced a new segment to Midoricast: “6 Min. to Understand”, hosted by Pierre Léonard.

As explained in this teaser, our connection with Pierre happened naturally: as members of the Kaya coalition, we share a strong conviction—stimulating an economy that respects planetary boundaries. And what better than an engaged network to turn ideas into concrete actions?

We provide an English transcript of the teaser for this podcast in this article. However, if you are learning French (podcasts are a great way to train your brain to get used to a language, making it easier to learn or practice) or if you understand it as well, feel free to listen the teaser here and subscribe to the podcast via Podcastics (If you follow this link, it is only valid for 7 days.), our podcast host. To subscribe, select your favorite app via the “See All” button in the list on our Linktree.

Why this segment?

We support businesses that implement real and measurable ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategies. Pierre trains and assists them in this transition.
Our approaches are different yet complementary: we encourage, he guides. This choice also presents a real challenge : where do we draw the line?

Some companies featured in this segment do not yet meet our current criteria, and we would refuse any collaboration with them unless they initiate real change. But that’s exactly where Pierre comes in—his role is to kickstart this transformation.

This podcast is not about judgment but inspiration.
The goal? To encourage rather than discourage, to support rather than exclude.

Let’s commit together to a circular, sustainable, and inclusive economy.
Listen, reflect, act… in just 6 minutes.

The transcript of this podcast “6 Min. pour comprendre” (English version) :

Michel Godart: [00:00:00] This podcast project is an initiative created and proposed by the non-profit organization The Podcast Factory org with the sponsorship of “transforma bxl – Innovation Playground”, and you can find all the episodes on the “What’s your Story.be” website.

Michel Godart: [00:00:18] Welcome to another episode of Midoricast, your podcast about positive initiatives for the environment. We have a section that has been recurring for a few months now, dedicated to Kaya, the coalition of Ecopreneurs. And in this context, thanks to Candice and Benoît from Kaya, I’ve been lucky enough to meet someone with whom I’ve got a lot in common. In any case, we share the same values and a common goal. Who is Pierre Léonard? Pierre Léonard was interviewed on my microphone in the Kaya section. I invite you to listen to it. And why do we have something in common? Well, because our podcast association Factory org campaigns to raise awareness of the ESG – Environment, Social and Governance – agenda among companies. Pierre Léonard is someone with exactly the same focus. And we thought, since he wanted to launch a podcast channel, why not launch a section dedicated to his favourite subject, as we do for Kaya? This is the teaser for the section we’re announcing today to explain our intentions. We’re going to introduce the name of the project, briefly introduce Pierre Léonard, and insist on our intentions, because it’s very important when you’re communicating, to give your intentions. I’ll let you introduce yourself in a few words.

Pierre Léonard: [00:01:28] Thank you. I started working on all thing’s sustainable development in 2016, starting with zero waste, and then gradually building up my skills. And now my job title is “sustainable development facilitator”. It’s a bit of a mouthful, but it simply means that what I do is go into companies, into organizations, to help them find out by themselves how they can integrate sustainable development practices into their activities, so that they can not only help the planet, but somehow find a way to make a profit themselves, and not just a financial one. We’ll be talking about this at length and regularly in the various episodes of the podcast. The idea is that they should be able to find by themselves the smoothest and most efficient way of achieving this result.

Michel Godart: [00:02:16] You were at the Hope show in Namur and you already had a stand there, so we’d already exchanged a few words at the Hope show. And we’d also like to thank this exhibition, which we applaud and which I recommend you also attend. So, can you tell us the name of the podcast you’d like to launch as part of the Midoricast podcast?

Pierre Léonard: [00:02:32] The name of the section? It will be called “Six minutes pour comprendre”. Six minutes to understand will be the section that answers all the questions decision-makers have about sustainable development and how make the most of it in their companies. Why six minutes? Because in a previous life, I was also the owner of a small company, and I know that when you’re an executive, you don’t always have a lot of time, and even though I like listening to longer podcasts, I’ve decided to go for a slightly shorter format, even a much shorter six minutes, because it allows you to take a little break between two meetings, listen to it on a short car journey, etc, etc. And there’s nothing to stop you from listening to several episodes in a row!

Michel Godart: [00:03:15] A multi-part episode because even six minutes can sometimes be too long.

Pierre Léonard: [00:03:19] Exactly.

Michel Godart: [00:03:19] So the idea is that we’re going to create regular sections. We’ve set ourselves a target of one a week, but that will depend on your schedule and mine. So, there may be some gaps. So please bear with us, dear listeners. And so, it’s six minutes each time. So, what will the listener gain by listening to these constant six minutes?

Pierre Léonard: [00:03:36] What I’m hoping to achieve really is, first, to take people where they are, because I’ve been working with businesses for a while now and I realise that there are huge discrepancies between what the people I’m talking to know about sustainable development, and what they believe…

Michel Godart: [00:03:51] Or think they know

Pierre Léonard: [00:03:51] Or think they know indeed. We’re going to start with general concepts, but little by little we’ll move on to more specific things. And really, the aim is to be able to take people by the hand or ear and explain this concept, that concept, that concept. In a very concrete way, in their company, they can go and find the teams, go and take on board the people who work with them, their colleagues, and really take them by the hand to move towards these sustainable development practices, towards this integration of sustainable development practices in their company.

Michel Godart: [00:04:26] The listener is entitled to ask the question, Pierre, how do you validate your arguments?

Pierre Léonard: [00:04:32] All the podcast episodes will also be available on the blog, which is also called Six minutes pour comprendre, with my sources. The point is that listeners who want to do so can explore further by looking at the information I’ve summarized to explain what I’m saying. It’s not a matter of guesswork. Yes, sometimes it will be a little emotional, but I really make sure that people can go and check what I’m saying and that I don’t talk off the cuff.

Michel Godart: [00:05:00] We’re still human beings; we’re entitled to our emotions and I think we have to leave room for them. We realize that sometimes six minutes is too short to back up arguments with sources. And the purpose of these six-minute spots is not to give detailed arguments. It’s an invitation to become aware, to understand rather than to dissect. As for the sources, you’ll have to go to the blog to find the information.

Pierre Léonard: [00:05:20] I would also add that one of the goals of the episode is “What’s in it for me?” How can I find an advantage in the theme of the episode we’re tackling?

Michel Godart: [00:05:29] We’d also like to create a community movement around this project so that there can be exchange and interaction. And in front of me, Pierre Léonard, don’t forget, he’s an expert in his field. Contact him because he can really help your company. He can also help you privately, he can advise you and I think our company needs that.

Pierre Léonard: [00:05:44] Just to be clear. I’m going to give concrete examples from my own practice. If you can think of an example of good practice that you’ve already implemented in your business, please let me know and I’d be delighted to talk about it, because there are lots of good things going on. The media talk a lot about what’s going wrong, but much less about what’s going right. There are lots of things going well. That’s a note I’d really like to include in this podcast. It’s showing all the initiatives that are being carried out here, there and in between. It’s really very important.

Michel Godart: [00:06:15] And here again, we agree on the mindset, our culture and our vision of stimulating ESG programs, but also encouraging positivism and positive inspiration, which are essential if we are not to lose hope and give up. If all you get are negative warnings, you give up, feel powerless and give up. And if you stop the movement, the hummingbirds fade away, and that’s dangerous.

Pierre Léonard: [00:06:33] Indeedt

Michel Godart: [00:06:33] In fact, I’d also like to underline your humility here because I’ve portrayed you as an expert on your topic, but you have the humility to say that people can also give you examples. People can also inspire you, despite your expertise. You’re a good listener and you don’t think you’re a know-it-all. You accept that people can criticize you, question you and give you other ideas.

Pierre Léonard: [00:06:50] And I’m learning every day.

Michel Godart: [00:06:52] So I’m also going to mention something Pierre, if you’ll allow me. Two important things. I mentioned that you’re an expert and I know you hate that because you don’t consider yourself as such. That’s just my point of view, and that’s just me. The second thing I’d like to make clear is that in this podcast, six minutes pour comprendre, you’ll be asked to take positions that are specific to your activity and your section. This doesn’t mean that you’re involving the Factory org podcast association. There are times when we won’t necessarily agree. So, when you host your columns, you’re only involving yourself and your activity. You’re not involving Midoricast and you’re not involving the podcast factory org. With these wise words, we close this opening episode. We’ll be back soon with the first instalment of the podcast : “Six minutes….
